Your Complete First Aid Kit Checklist – 2021 Edition

As 2020 wraps up, we can only look forward to a brighter year ahead with new safety measures in place to keep our family safe with the required First Aid Kit Checklist for your home.  Yes, there may be some takeaways that we have learned over the last year to improve our health and safety in the long term.

Life beyond COVID-19 is inevitable. With many vaccine hopes on the horizon, it’s safe to assume that the pandemic will come to an end and life will continue, although life, in general, may look and feel different after COVID-19 than before.

What have we learned from living through a pandemic, and what new habits have we adopted to keep us all safer and healthier in the long term?

As a matter of fact, personal hygiene, in general, has improved drastically as washing your hands and using hand sanitizer multiple times throughout the day has been adopted by thousands, even those of us who have always been consistent hand washers, consciously wash more. (Check out our blog on how to buy hand sanitizer in Canada for more info). This may reduce the spread of other infectious diseases, or even the classic cold, all because of the precautionary measures we have adopted as part of our life.

Also, the number of families that have been home together, rather than at the office or in school,  bring a new focus on the importance of safety within the home.

When our kids go to school, and we go to work, we often don’t think about how well-equipped and prepared they are for an emergency, complete with the necessary first aid supplies to assist with many types of injuries.   How many types of injuries should a first aid kit be able to address?  Let’s break it down!

Types of Injuries
  • Fractures
  • Burns
  • Eye Injuries
  • Wounds
  • Head Trauma
  • Injuries that require CPR

Consider this, aside from a minor scrape, all the injury types above will require a visit to the emergency room, so you can count on healthcare workers once you arrive, but having the correct first aid supplies can reduce the severity of the injury or even save a life.

Every household should be prepared to handle an emergency with a proper first aid kit and basic knowledge on how to use its contents.  In addition, we highly suggest updated first aid training for at least one member of each household. Check out our Basic First Aid Courses here for more information and sign up for one of our classes.

As you can see, the modern first aid kit goes far beyond a couple of Spider-Man band-aids and some ointment from 1993.  I know some of you out there have kits that resemble this, so it’s time for a valuable upgrade.
